All the universities of Australia and Tasmania have decided to do away with the task of assignment writing from their respective academic evaluation process. A new and fresh method to test the students’ knowledge will be set up. Any pending assignment till the date of 31^st March, if not completed, will stand annulled and will only be considered if the assignment is ready to submit.

The Director of Australian Universities Association has quoted, “we have long burdened the young minds with unnecessary academic work, it is high time that we reconsider this decision and come up with something new”. Even the university deans of Melbourne, Sydney and Toowoomba have welcomed the decision with open arms.

The reasons have not been specified in detail. However, the only plausible explanation can be the academic pressure of strict deadlines, inability to meet outstanding quality and neglect of the respective unit lectures. Therefore, it is highly imperative that the implications are critically analysed and ascertain that the new process, put in place, does not meet the same fate.
