Work stress and organizational behavior are significantly associated with each other as a close relationship between decrease in job performance and stress has been identified. The current study will identify the influence of work stress on the Job performance (organizational behavior) of employees in Singapore and recommend some strategy to improve the same.
Employees of Southeast Asia’s wealthy island Singapore has been identified to be least satisfied (Harjani, 2017). A recent report has demonstrated that workers of Singapore are becoming dissatisfied with their employers in an increasing manner. A survey confirmed that most of the employees found their organizational culture to be limiting. This disallows the employees to speak their concerns in an open environment due to which the decision making gets delayed. Additionally, employees have agreed that they fear facing negative consequences while expressing their ideas (Microsoft News, 2020). This can be considered as a source of stress. These impact upon decision making capabilities and prompt action of the employees (organizational behavior) against organizational requirements.
Apart from that, it has been identified that the rate of burn out among the employees of Singapore is highest among other countries. It has been presented into a report of Pacific Prime Singapore, (2019) that work is a leading cause of stress in Singaporean employees. Additionally, it has been identified that Singaporeans work longer by 23% of the 48 hours week of work. These have been considered responsible for energy depletion and exhaustion due to lack of performance effectiveness, reduced professional efficacy and engagement has been said to occur. This has increased cost of corporate burnout as employers need to invest more on employee benefit programs. Here are some recommendations that can be implied in order to avoid or prevent aforementioned challenge of decreased job performance related to organizational behavior.
In conclusion, it can be stated that the stress significantly impacts the organizational behavior of the employees where decrease in the job performance has been identified mostly affecting the Singaporean organization in the modern era. Additionally, higher engagement of the employees, learning specific work strategies, performance feedback and others have been suggested which have been found in the literature to have a facilitatory effect upon the organizational behavior of the employees.
