The article, “The relationship between runner environmental paradigm and their motives to participate in an urban or rural marathon” by Mellissa Davies, Eric Hungenberg and Thomas Aicher states the various aspects of the runner’s concern regarding the environment depending on which race they choose to participate in. The aim of this article was to examine the role of the runner’s concern for the environment through their choice between the rural and urban marathon. A survey was conducted on the different participants of the marathon from the urban and rural races, to explore the relationship between their ecological consciousness, the choices in the race selection, as well as the sport tourism motivational outline regarding the marathon runners in every selected race setting. There was a logistic deterioration, which portrayed an important statistical area, which would predict the urban versus rural choice, which appropriately classified 84 percent of the cases.
The discipline area, which has been used in this article, is the environmental approach as this specifically focusses on the thought process of the marathon runners on the effect of races on the environment. All the areas in this article focus on the environmental aspect as marathons take place both in the urban as well as rural areas. These marathons keep the participants fit, however the environmental aspect is a huge concern for the racers. When the environmental aspect is not correct for the marathon, it becomes difficult to participate in them. The air temperature is connected to the performance of the marathon runners, as when the temperature increases above the optimal level, the running rate of the racers is affected.
Having proper environmental surroundings, helps in managing the events in a proper way, without any problems. In the article, the racers in the survey stated that they preferred the urban marathons than the rural races. The urban atmosphere is much cleaner than the rural atmosphere as there is more dirt present in the air, which makes it difficult for the racers to focus on the race without having breathing problems due to the dust particles. Environment plays a very significant role, as when the temperature is too high, it is difficult to finish a race. Concerning the event issues, when there is a huge number of participants present, it may become difficult for the event managers to manage the race in a proper manner. In the article, it can be seen that the racers attend a marathon or a road race only based on effective differentiation as well as marketing. When an event has a proper marketing strategy, it attract audience, which acts as a form of advertisement and it becomes a success. The runners are concerned for the environment, which acts as a significant factor in choosing their races as they make their choice depending on the destination and event choice, along with the modifications, which are present in the sports tourism, based on the rural or urban race terminus.
This paper provides an analysis of the article by Melissa Davies, Eric Hungenberg and Thomas Aicher. which is based on the environmental paradigm and its relationship with their motives to take part in either an urban or rural marathon or race. This research brings forth the choices of the racers whether they prefer urban or rural races, and the findings of the research bring forth the result that they would select the urban races due to the environmental paradigms. The marathons depict the ability of an event management company to be able to effectively manage an event, without any hindrances.
