According to Abdul Majid, Ramli, and Ying et al. (2016), balanced dietary intake improves the nutritional intake of dietary components and restricts the intake of unhealthy components that impact the calorie intake and affect the body mass index (BMI). BMI for a healthy weight is 18.5 – 25 for. For this research poster, the research question is, ‘How does a balanced dietary intake impact the BMI of teenagers with obesity’. As per the PICO format, the population (P): teenagers with obesity, intervention (I): balanced dietary intake, comparison (C): poor body mass index, outcome (O): healthy body mass index. This research question is very important to encourage and spread awareness among the teenager about balanced dietary intake.
For this research topic, the articles are chosen from credible sources such as Medline, CINAHL, and PubMed. The articles that are in the English language are selected and others are excluded. The articles from 2015 to 2020 are selected based on the selection criteria. The use of key terms and Boolean operators helped in the selection of the articles that contain relevant information such as balanced dietary intake AND impact the BMI, balanced diet OR BMI of teenagers with obesity, BMI of teenagers with obesity, AND balanced dietary intake. The selected articles were checked twice based on the eligibility criteria and those that did not fulfill the criteria were again excluded.
For this research 5 articles were used and these were critically appraised for the information related to the research topic.

Nutritional diet improves BMI |
If there is an intake of a balanced diet such as whole grain meals, fruits, vegetables, no skipping of meals, and physical activity then intake of calorie content is under control. This impacts the waist size, levels of cholesterol, reduced risks to cardiovascular issues, and improved BMI. Drinking of less sweetened drinks, reduced junk food intake and 3 time meals maintain weight and it improves BMI (Abdul et al. 2016). BMI and obesity in obese teenagers can be improved with appropriate levels of intake of protein, carbohydrate, fat, and various other macros- or micro-nutrients. With the intake of a balanced diet such as dairy foods, eggs, fishes, plenty of potatoes, rice, and milk is best for obese teenagers and this maintains the weight and mass of the body; thereby affecting the BMI of the teenagers.
It is concluded that spreading knowledge about nutritional diet intake in obese teenagers improves their cholesterol, weight, waist size, and body composition. All these factors improve BMI as well. It is concluded that if BMI is low or high then the body health is affected, but if intake of nutrition is not adequate then weight increase with waist size and other issues. So, BMI can be kept under control with nutritional dietary intake for obese teenagers for maintaining their weight and health.
