Victoria went through a testing blitz with over 8000 senior students tested over the weekend. This was a pre-decided measure to prevent the virus spreading as students in year 11 and 12 returned to school to take the General Assessment Test. 33 positive cases were identified and these students will be exempted from sitting their GAT.

The Ministry of Education said it would have otherwise been impossible to identify COVID-19 positive cases without the test blitz. They will contact the students who tested positive and let them know about the arrangements for taking their exams at a later stage.

Of the locally-acquired 67789 test results received, the Victorian state recorded 1377 new cases and four deaths, including two men in their 60s and two women in their 70s -- all from different regions of the city. Considering the spike in COVID-19 positive cases, authorities have decided to stop public listing of their tier II exposure sites. The state’s total toll is now 12711.
