Why Underpaid International Students Are Hesitant To Report Their Employers?

According to the International Students and Wage Theft in Australia study released last year, more than three-quarters of international students aged 20 and up were paying less than the minimum casual hourly wage, with 20% earning $12 per hour or less.

An Indonesian student said she chose to spend the next six months in Australia doing an internship or part-time in her field of knowledge, international business.

She did, however, end up working two cash jobs for less than the legal minimum casual wage of $24.80 per hour, earning $18 per hour in an internal cafe and $15 per hour in a Hawthorn café.

According to a survey, 56.9% of international students said they were thankful to their managers for giving them a job. Furthermore, according to the study, 32.4 percent of underpaid international students said they were satisfied with their salaries because their peers were earning equal pay.

Moreover, Some international students were hesitant to disclose their cases because they feared it would adversely affect their visas. Nonetheless, international students should not be afraid to disclose how they are handled at work.

Australia has a lower number of foreign students than a year ago, with 43,000 fewer international students participating in the country's universities for which there could be a need for urgent workers.
