The province will start its first day of the “Restrictions Exemption Program” on Monday. This program makes it compulsory for customers to show the proof-of-vaccination certificate or a negative Covid-19 report before availing services inside bars, gyms, restaurants, and similar recreational activities. The other provinces have adopted a vaccine passport, but the restriction exemption program is intended for non-essential businesses.

Bill Bonar, who is the owner of Rain Dog Bar, is opting for this program. He says, “I will not send any inexperienced staff with no idea what the rules are for requesting the vaccination proof from the customer. Rather, I will handle the customers personally on this topic and ask them to leave if they do not cooperate.”

The Ward 6 councillor and the mayoral candidate, Jeff Davison says that the city committee might look to pass the bylaw for creating the local vaccine passport. Davison further added that the bylaw would remove the confusion from the customers and take responsibility away from the businesses for outlining the rules.
