Through tutoring, curriculum development, and summer schools, the Universities in Australia have been informed by the Department for Education (DfE) to improve outcomes for disadvantaged students. What the student does after completing their education has to be treated as important as what they do before and during the course of study. There have been several instances where, due to improper recruitment, students were dropping out and even becoming depressed. Professor Steve West, President of Universities UK, said that universities must deliver high-quality education to all disadvantaged students so that they can achieve better qualifications and positive outcomes for themselves. The Universities are urged to tackle dropout rates and provide extended support to help them get into high-skilled jobs with large payouts. West further added that access to such education is the first phase. The second and most important step is to match this with participation and success.
