The voting agency that holds the charge of carrying out the federal elections in Canada gives out the statement, “waiting time at the polls might be longer for the voters.” It is because of the staff shortage and strict measures of COVID-19.

Canada is all set for the federal vote from next Monday. Election Canada is preparing for this historic national vote amid the pandemic. Giving out the statement on Thursday to Global News, Election Canada said, “We have recently reached over just the 80% of the total required recruitment for the election duty across the country.”

The agency also informed that they would strictly follow the protocols for COVID-19. With the proper physical distancing, outside line-ups, one-way traffic, etc., the agency will apply all the rules at the polling stations. It can also slow down the voting process.

The long wait may be why at many polling stations in Canada, the number of people coming for the in-person vote on Election Day might be less. According to the estimation of Election Canada, around 5.8 million Canadians went for the advance voting last weekend. The number had faced the 18.5% hike from the election held in 2019, setting a new record.
