Federal data report released the number of international students, May 2021, rests at 525,892, a drop by 17 % from 2020. Not having international students in Australia could cost its broader economy nearly A$20 b yearly loss.

Taking cudgels, the education ministry adopted a sleuth of changes with immediate effect, chalking an 18-month road map on their road to recovery.

The roadmap, reportedly, includes recommendations to lure international students with waivers like visa fees, simplifying the visa renewal process for international students affected during the pandemic, and reducing visa application fees for new students. The government also proposes taking the UK and Canada ways for their vaccine drive and quarantine in the host country.

All this is to reduce additional hurdles for international students seeking Australia as their academic destination, 2022. Minister for education and youth Alan Tudge opinionated a coordinated approach from federal and state governments as the only way out to 'provide a strong return for this vital sector, ' he said. A survey stated that the international student sentiment as a study abroad destination as Australia is declining.
