The Queensland Government is planning to open borders and allow fully-vaccinated international students to take on-campus courses from the first semester of 2022. Innovation minister, Stirling Hinchliffe, has sent the proposal titled, Queensland Student Arrival Plan, to the Federal Government and hopes to obtain a green flag soon. Once it is approved, 250 international students per week will be allowed to fly in and quarantine at an under-construction facility near Wellcamp Airport, which is where all international flights will be in-bound. Stirling further added that he will be welcoming more international students gradually over the next few months. As per the plan, students pursuing health and medical research are to be prioritised since they can support the state’s health system in case of future emergencies after the borders open. If the Federal Government disapproves landing of international flights at the city airport, students will have to be transported via buses from Brisbane to Wellcamp. All international students will need to cover their expenses quarantined at the facility will need to cover the expenses of their stay.
