The idea of International Yoga Day was proposed by the Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi and on 11th December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly accepted the proposal and declared 21st June as International Yoga Day.

The event on this seventh edition of International Yoga Day is broadcasted over TV due to the Covid-19 situation. People at their homes can join this event at 6:30 am. Yoga is the ray of hope that will protect us and guide us towards safety in this pandemic situation, said PM Modi.

Here we will be talking about few significant points about International Yoga Day:

  • This year's theme for Yoga day is Yoga for Wellness. And it’s the second consecutive year when this day is celebrated digitally.
  • The United Nations says that this year's theme is relevant as this time society is recovering from the impact of the pandemic. And it also said that yoga can help people overcome the issues of anxiety and depression that the Corona Virus has caused.
  • The Indian ministry will organize the drive called “Yoga an Indian Heritage” at the different 75 cultural locations on Monday. This day will be the run-up to those placed abroad in India. As per the Ayush ministry, this day will be observed by the 190 countries (approx.)
