The Australian government has announced that international students are allowed to work at supermarkets in the states and territories. This permission is special as it allows the students to work more than 40 hours per fortnight. It was decided when the supermarket sector urged immediate relief. Many of the staff are in self-isolation mode due to which the work has been affected.

The press release was issued from the department of home affairs. It said that, “this is a temporary measure that has been taken. They can work in all Victorian supermarkets and New South Wales.”

“This decision is significant as it assures that the supermarket can continue by offering the required essential services. This temporary measure will also be helpful for the workers (international students) by adding some income flexibility during the lockdown.” said the immigration minister Alex Hawke.
