According to Open Doors, an annual report released by the Institute of International Education, the number of students travelling to the US for higher studies has fallen significantly after the pandemic devastated industries and sectors. Each year, the report shows key information about student mobility and their interest in pursuing higher degrees at the US colleges and universities. The 2021 report shows a huge decline of 45.7% in new student enrollments, which was expected as international and domestic travel were strictly restricted. The student enrollment in higher education dropped from 5.5% to 4.6%, which was approximately 19 million in number. Despite the COVID-19 hurdles, the universities were successful in delivering remote education to 145000 students. States that saw a double-digit decline in student enrollments are California, Arizona, Maryland, Delawarem and Montana. The report further revealed that 1 out of 3 students studied in New York, California, or Texas and all three places were heavily impacted by the pandemic.
