Australia is all set to reopen its international borders as domestic students will begin returning to New South Wales and Victoria from December. This means states across the country will have to ease restrictions once the total percentage of fully-vaccinated population reaches 80%. At this stage, people may not be required to wear a mask inside offices and schools. More adults will be allowed to gather at public places and weddings. But experts believe this could be disastrous as COVID-19 cases may skyrocket again with new infection cases reaching as high as 40000 in a day. ‘Post-lockdown surges’ as they call it have been observed worldwide. Even in heavily-vaccinated countries, fresh cases grew at an alarming rate shortly after the restrictions were lifted by the Government. Should that happen in Australia, the healthcare sector must be prepared to face the rapid surge in fresh cases.
