Queen’s University (QUB) offers £1,500 to the students if they do not take the rooms in the university accommodation. The university has to take such steps because there is an “unprecedented” demand for accommodation, and the hall was oversubscribed. The university is offering the students who have applied for the rooms with money. So, the students can find another accommodation with that.

The offer includes cash worth £1,250, £150 on the QUB student card and £100 on the off-peak gym membership. According to the record, over 3,500 students live in the halls of residence each year run by the university. But this year, the number of applications is much more than what can be accommodated.

A spokesperson of QUB said that “Queen’s has always gone out of the ways to help the students. It has planned flexible terms during the lockdowns. This has resulted in more students wanting to be part of the university accommodation for 2021-2022.”

The QUB halls provide accommodation to students close to the university and in the Belfast city centre. University said that there had been a 12% increment in the number of first-year applications for the accommodation at Queen’s that the last year.
