Due to the pandemic, the US government is dealing with heavy backlogs in the visa processing service. And, it is unlikely to be back to normal any time soon. There are large numbers of US consulates around the world that have not been processing the visas. This has led to a situation that is challenging for the international students as they won’t be able to join the campus for the fall 2021 semester.

The visa policy analyst for the Bureau of Consular Affairs posted at the department of state Kathryn Strong acknowledged the impact of the visa processing delay. She said that the state understands the frustration and hardship of the visa applicants. She also added that the government is working hard with the resources to change the situation as soon as possible. But there are challenges which the pandemic has left us with.

In the US the positive cases of COVID have decreased but there are places in the world where the situation is still dangerous, Strong said. We request the students to be in touch with their local embassies until this issue is not resolved.

Sarah Spreitzer who is the director of government relations at the American Council of Education while talking to The PIE News said that the situation with the visa delay in the nation is affecting the international students.
