As short as 24 hours notice, Canada reached its maximum intake of 40,000 international student graduates’ applications after initiating the residency permit to permanent residence (TR to PR) programme. This number is 7,300 more than last time.

Sources say that the pipeline is more awaited, as a technical snag had the numbers fudged.

The applications are more for immigration, other than the applications anticipated for the foreign grads stream.

In June this year, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino pointed out that Canada recorded its strongest month for new permanent resident arrivals during the pandemic.

Canada is on its way to fulfil its commitment to land 401,000 new permanent residents, besides students in the foreign grad stream.

Such a large number of immigrants was witnessed, last by Canada in 1913, when Canadian immigration plummeted to such a large number immediately after the onset of the First World War.

The TR to PR chooses six special immigration procedures to help students graduate applications for Canadian citizenship. The one time programme began May 6 and are likely to end November 5.

Sometimes, it gets an extension till intake caps are reached. Even incomplete applications will be considered based on the information provided, this time, the IRCC said.
