According to the 2021 Aggregate Ranking of College and Universities, Australia has seven universities that rank in the top 100 and 13 universities that rank among the global 200.It now ranks third for the number of colleges and universities in the list of top 200 globally. The United States took the lead with 54 universities and the United Kingdom with 27. These rankings are calculated on the basis of how high or low they are positioned in the global rankings -- the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and Times Higher Education. UNSW President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Jacobs, highlighted the common problem faced in ranking universities -- due to dozens of rankings, it becomes confusing and brings out different results. He further added that the rankings are not 100% perfect but they are the best measure of global standards.
