In a bid to reinstate students from the weaker community incurring losses in studies, the Federal government, Australia, decides to fund scholars inhabiting areas still grieving under the wrath of the pandemic, COVID-19, greater Melbourne in Victoria is one of them.

The economics of the said amount is calculated on a weekly and hourly basis. Recipients will be allocated $500 per week for losing 20 hours of work and $325 for less.

However, citing criteria, the fund is available only for students who do not have liquid assets beyond $10,000. And are permanent residents or working visa holders, which also ropes international scholars.

The international student community welcomed the call. However, there is an appeal for further bettering provisions as part-time jobs are badly hit due to the extended lockdown.

Belle Lim, president of, Council of International Students Australia, welcomed the move stating it is the first time the Federal government has come forward in seventeen months to acknowledge the plight of the eligible students.
