Marise Payne, Australian Foreign Minister, has announced $11 million under the ‘Maitri’ program to financially support Indian students aspiring to study higher education at the leading universities and colleges in Australia. The program is also expected to help Australia to tap into new trade and investment opportunities whilst it continues to recover from the economic influence of COVID – 19. In addition to this, he announced fresh initiatives that would further boost India and Australia's cultural and educational ties. As a part of the Maitri fellowship program, the Government of Australia will offer $3.5 million over four years to establish and strengthen links between upcoming leaders. It will also assist mid-career Indian and Australian professionals to collaborate on strategic research initiatives. With $6 million allocated for Maitri cultural associations, Australian authorities hope to support cultural exchanges and boost the role of innovative industries in the two nations.
