Australia faces a massive decline in international student enrollments, which has dropped by 51 per cent since March 2021. The severe crash is reported due to the strict closure of borders and spike in course fees. On the contrary, student applications in the US, Canada, and the UK rose by 422%, 148%, and 150% respectively. These three markets have attracted significant international student applications clearly because of favorable immigration conditions. Australian colleges and universities believe this is a concerning situation as the fees deposited by students make up for 40% of the total revenue generated. Hence, the education sector needs strong pipelines of applicants to stay at the top of the market. Hiking course fees was a measure to counter the declining enrollments but this has become a major obstacle preventing students from applying to pursue higher studies in Australia.
