Like every country, Australia’s education industry receives large revenue from the fees paid by international students. In 2019, the industry generated $40 billion. Over the last two years, it suffered a loss of 6% or $1.8 billion. The centre predicts more than $2 billion could be lost this year if the Government does not communicate a roadmap for the return of international students on a large scale. Australia’s global share was 20% in 2019 and was on par with the UK and ahead of the US. Authorities are now concerned about losing thousands of students to overseas education. But reports show that Chinese students are still taking admission at the Group of Eight universities in significant numbers. Compared with July last year, this figure has grown by 6.4% indicating that not all universities in Australia are struggling.
