In this course, one is introduced to microcomputer systems and microprocessor architecture inclusive of input/output and memory interfacing. As a student you will be required to learn and understand topics such as bus architecture, assembly language programming, interrupts, memory systems, bus cycle types among other related topics.
On completion of the course you are expected to be able to interpret, analyze, verify and troubleshoot the fundamental microprocessor programs and circuits through the use of standard techniques and also test equipment. The student is expected to have 3 types of skills at the end of the course: intellectual, general, professional and practical skills.
Intellectual Skills: The student is supposed to be able to link computer codes and number systems, analyze the microprocessor interface using RAM, ROM and I/O interfacing basics and analyze the interface and operation of selected architectures of eight bit microprocessors.
Professional Skills: The student should be able to perform lab experiments, perform different measurements on basic instruments and collect information from lab data.
General Skills: The student should be able to work effectively in a team.
