I started the counselling session by creating a welcoming and secure setting that encouraged the couple to talk about their problems. I listened effectively to the two players, guaranteeing that I figured out their point of view prior to offering any arrangements. I also had to make sure that everyone in the group had a chance to speak and participate in the session because I was the facilitator. As a token of my love and appreciation, I also arranged lunch for the participants.
I believe that the session was successful overall and that the participants gained valuable knowledge about how to deal with domestic violence in a relationship. Nevertheless, I did observe some areas in which I could enhance my facilitation abilities. I was proud of myself for actively listening to group members and providing support and assistance when required. I also felt empathy for the attendees as they expressed their perspectives and experiences with the challenging subject of domestic abuse.
In general, I believe that the session was successful in achieving its goals. I was effective in laying out a protected and steady climate that advanced contribution and considered the sharing of individual encounters. I led in a democratic way that emphasised teamwork, inclusion, and participation from all members. This leadership style was appropriate for the circumstances of the session since it fostered equal participation from all members and contributed to the group's trust and rapport (Kottmeyer, Cutler and Pembridge, 2018). In terms of areas where I could have done better, I could have better managed my time and made sure that everyone in the group had the same chance to share their experiences and ideas. I also could have included more interactive activities and visual aids to engage the group and improve the learning experience as a whole. In addition, I should have been better prepared to deal with disagreements and difficult circumstances that may happen during group meetings (Ishimaru and Galloway, 2014). While there were no significant disagreements during the session, it is critical for me to learn how to de-escalate issues and create a pleasant and supportive atmosphere for all group members.
My facilitation style and content were significantly impacted by the group's stage. It was essential for me to concentrate on closure and reflection rather than group cohesion and task completion because the group was in the Adjourning Stage. I had the option to work with the pretend action that permitted a bunch of individuals to think about their encounters and feelings and to recognize techniques for pushing ahead. I also used activities for icebreakers to make it easy for people in the group to talk about their experiences and ideas (Kottmeyer, Cutler and Pembridge, 2018). This contributed to the group's trust and rapport, which were essential for facilitating open and honest communication.
In terms of strategies for ensuring participation and resolving conflicts, I used my active listening skills and asked open-ended questions that helped identify the underlying causes of domestic violence and encouraged participation. I also encouraged participants to think about their experiences and feelings and to share their findings with the rest of the group. This contributed to the creation of a friendly and nonjudgmental environment that encouraged open and honest conversation (Bashir, Mahnaz and Abbas Malik, 2021). I used a collaborative approach to dispute resolution, encouraging parties to work together to develop mutually acceptable solutions. My facilitation skills were greatly enhanced by the session planning. I spent a lot of time researching domestic violence and creating role-playing games. Because of this, I was able to comprehend the subject and lead the activity in a way that was both engaging and instructive for the members of the group.
All in all, my experience as a gathering facilitator has permitted me to acquire important bits of knowledge for my initiative and help abilities. I was able to effectively lead a role-play counselling session on treating partner-inflicted domestic violence. I led with a democratic approach that encouraged teamwork, inclusion, and participation from all members. Overall, the session was successful in achieving its goals and objectives, although there are areas for improvement. Moving forward, I intend to use my strengths while also honing my facilitating abilities to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere for all group participants.
