Based on successful entrepreneurs, it is true that these are the main means for an entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship starts at having traits and abilities that make an individual stand out in the business aspect. These traits are then harnessed by knowledge corridors where they can be set up and implemented. In order to maintain the success in the entrepreneurial business, it is also important to have social networks that expand the entrepreneurial reach allowing it to grow. Research also shows that taking risks is also a character trait for successful entrepreneurs (Anwar and Saleem, 2019). Risks are important since success is not guaranteed even if one possesses the three main ‘means’.
Physical exercise is an important aspect for any sportsperson. Physical activity is known to not only have an impact on the physical body but also has psychological and psychosocial health benefits (Malm et al., 2019). I would consider my tastes and abilities are in physical exercise and in technology. The old-fashioned gym and outdated instructional videos are not working for this generation. This has robbed the sports industry of many abled individuals just because they are not willing to put in the work in exercising. I would use my passion and the techniques I have used to embrace exercising to start a business such as an online training classes/program on physical exercises with added incentives such as virtual competition among the clients, tech-enabled progress report etc.
The ‘knowledge corridor’ used in this business would be the use of technology to develop applications that can be used to track physical exercise activity. The main targets for the business would be college going students who are my peers and would be more willing to listen to one of their own. College going students have a lot of free time on their hands and would be easy targets to be consumers of the online physical exercise training platform. They are also tech-savvy and would be more open to using technology-enhanced methods of exercising
With the business being offered online, the social networks can grow very rapidly. The business can start with having clients from local universities who can then recommend to their friends and peers across the country. The platform can grow to having individuals from all over who can challenge each other, compete with one another and motivate themselves to continue exercising. This continued effort will lead to having more young men and women embrace the sports industry and hopefully have some become professional sportspersons.
Website domain hijacking is a common dispute against organizations for the right to use a particular domain for their business operations. This is similar in the sports industry where big spots companies protect their brand by having ownership of particular domains. In 2019, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) ruled against a Sports Equipment and Apparel Company in Singapore called Pte. Ltd. The company was a complainant against a Canadian company called St. Lawrence Cement Inc against the use of the domain demix.com. Pte. Wanted full rights to using the domain which the respondent had been using to sell their cement products. Similar to the other examples, the big Sports Company lost the case. However, unlike Lotto and Puma, in this case the sports company was the complainant. This is similar to the case between One Championship and Group One Holdings Pte Ltd where the sports company was found guilty of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking.
The verdict given by WIPO was fair to both the complainant and the respondent. WIP took into consideration the date of registration of the trademark which is important in determining the rightful owner. Pte. Ltd.is a company which was incorporated in 2012 and registered the Demix trademark in 2005. St. Lawrence registered the trademark in 1997 long before the complainant hence giving them the rightful ownership. The findings also showed that the cement company had not been using the domain name in bad faith. They had not sold any sports equipment or violated any other law in that regard. The ruling therefore granted them full ownership of the domain and prohibited the sports company from using it to sell their products.
