How to carve a pumpkin for Halloween (a design of your choosing)

Introduction

Pumpkin spice up everything at Halloween. Pumpkin is used in many dishes and many recipes.

Why Are Pumpkins Carved at Halloween?

Pumpkins are carved at Halloween because they can easily be turned out into scary faces (Grant, 2017). Halloween days are meant to be scary. Therefore, pumpkin can be easily cut out and is a good choice of vegetable to carve it out.

Pick a Perfect Pumpkin to Carve

Picking a perfect pumpkin to cut is very important or otherwise it will waste a lot of time. A solid pumpkin cannot be easily cut out. Therefore, it is important to look for a firm pumpkin which has all the surfaces can be easily handled, carved and carried. At the same time the pumpkin must be mature and have a thick puncture resistant skin and this can be even checked with fingernail (Mason & Mohmand, n.a.).

How to Carve a Pumpkin Step by Step

There are some steps to carve a pumpkin into a lantern so that it can be easily used for Halloween. It mainly includes cutting, scrapping and carving process.

Cutting/carving tools - Cutting or carving tools can be used for Halloween night for making the lantern and to easily bring out the pumpkin seeds.

Scooping and scraping tools - Scooping and scrapping tools include stringent goods and scooping tools like spoon that can easily be able to handle it.

Step 1. Cut into the pumpkin.

The first step is to cut the pumpkin from the surface after washing it so that you can cut its tip. It can be done with the help of marker. Then scoop out the marked area.

Step 2. Pull out the guts and seeds.

Try to pull out seeds and pulp present inside the Pumpkin. This will make your pumpkin last longer and will not spoil the process (Parade, n.a.).

Step 3. Draw your design.

This design can be drawn as per the choice. A cutting tool can be used to cut out the design (Smoothie, 2016). A tip marker can be used for sketching or drawing the design decided by the person while craving the pumpkin.

Step 4. Cut out your design.

Now the design drawn out must be cut out using the scooping tools. Even a scooping knife can be easily used to scoop out the design.

Step 5: Condition your jack-o’-lantern

And last but not least it is important to condition the lantern to make it last longer for the Halloween party or at least overnight.

Step 6: Illuminate your jack-o’-lantern.

Illuminate pumpkin with a candle to make it more attractive (Cooper, 2020). It can be done with a candle or electric lightings.

Lanterns or pumpkins must last longer. Therefore, the process to be carried out where pumpkin has the exposure to oxygen but loss of moisture (Browning, 2016).
